..SEVERE THUNDERSTORM OUTBREAK EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS...

THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN KANSAS CITY MISSOURI IS FORECASTING AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND TORNADOES THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT OVER MUCH OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS.

THE STATES WHICH ARE MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THE BRUNT OF THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY INCLUDE

MUCH OF OKLAHOMA
PARTS OF NORTH TEXAS
PARTS OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN KANSAS

A LOW PRESSURE CENTER DEVELOPING OVER NORTHWEST TEXAS THIS MORNING WILL INTENSIFY AND MOVE NORTHEAST INTO KANSAS TONIGHT. AT THE SAME TIME A STRONG JET STREAM DISTURBANCE NOW OVER NEW MEXICO WILL SWEEP NORTHEAST ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE PLAINS. THE COMBINATION OF SOUTHERLY LOW-LEVEL WINDS AHEAD OF THE DEVELOPING LOW...ALONG WITH INCREASING HIGH-LEVEL WESTERLY WINDS SUPPLIED BY THE JET STREAM...WILL CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF TEXAS...OKLAHOMA AND KANSAS.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL RAPIDLY DEVELOP BY MID TO LATE AFTERNOON NEAR THE DRY LINE IN WESTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST TEXAS AND BECOME WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE AREA THIS EVENING. CONDITIONS IN THE ATMOSPHERE ARE FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS ..CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS AND TORNADOES.

ALL PERSONS IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SAFETY RULES...AND LISTEN TO RADIO..TV..OR NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WATCHES OR WARNINGS. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WEATHER SITUATION FOR THE AFFECTED AREAS AND SHOULD BE
MONITORED CLOSELY.
