Illinois Overshooting Tops
On July 08, 2008 a band of strong to severe thunderstorms extended from Missouri into Indiana and Ohio. Some of these storms had extremely high cloud tops. Temperatures on IR Satellite approached -60C degrees and colder.
Here is a visible image showing numerous overshooting tops across the State of Illinois.

You can make out the white colors, in central Illinois, embedded within the bright red. These are the highest cloud tops.
There were numerous reports of wind gusts between 60 and 70 MPH across central Illinois.
